Unboxing

From first look the packaging is similar with standard external drives that sold in current market. With the yellow and white as the main color scheme,it makes the box look striking.

Looking at the front box title, user directly can understand that this is a SSD that portable and act as external drive. WD offer sweet features of WD Backup and Security software that compatible with this drive and covered with 3 years of warranty too.

Looking at the back with lots of wording on top is just different language of “Transfer up to 515MB/s, with password protection in a shock-resistance, compact design”. Look closely on the middle right of the box, this device comes with USB-C + USB-A Adapter for those that does not have USB Type C connection in their PC or notebook.

Upon unboxing the package, the drive is protected with nicely hard card box materials and greetings by WD of wording Hello. We can say this device is well protected in the box during the trasportaion.

Inside the box:
+ WD My Passport SSD 256GB
+ USB type C cable
+ USB Type C to Type A adapter
+ Manual Book
+ Flyer that explain different type of connection to the drive supported.

USB Type C is slowly accepted and we can see from time to time, many notebook and even PC support USB Type C connection for blazing fast transfer rate. Luckily WD also provided free adapter for those that still using standard USB Type A connection.

Look at the size of the drive compared to our Touch’n’Go Card which is the same size of credit card. The drive is even smaller!

If you look closely on the back, you can notice the product number and also serial number and the model of this drive. The black area is made out of plastic material while the silver part is some sort of aluminum finishing.

Underneath the drive, you can see the USB Type C port with separate detachable cable so you can replace the cable anytime when the cable having problem or broken.

Benchmark

We did a simple test of benchmark using 3 software of Anvil Pro, Atto Disk Benchmark and Crystal Disk Benchmark. All this software is available to download free on their website.

Conclusion

Our verdict upon playing with the drive for about 1 week, we starting to love this device. The compact design, portable storage with blazing fast speed and even WD bundle with Password and Backup features. Did we tell you, they even have apps from third party software like elephantdrive for cloud storage and eset antivirus for protection too and even many more of it! From the benchmark that we make a few test, the speed is quite slower than we expected which about 100mb/s slower than what WD claims, but its already blazing fast for us. I always backup games installation and with this drive, its make lots faster compared to our external hdd. The drive both support for USB Type C and A which compatible to all user device. The only minor problem I found after using this drive is that the metal suface easily gets caught of my fingerprints. It’s quite annoying but still easily clean off by using cloths. With the current pricetag of RM579, I truly suggest for those that looking for fast speed portable storage, you must have a look at this one bro!

Finally, I would like to say thank you to WD Malaysia for providing us the WD MY Passport SSD 256GB to play and review this product.
