Conclusion
AMD may not have done well with their CPU products but they have undeniably made a great GPU against offerings from NVIDIA. However, AMD have opted for a different pricing compared to their previous generation GPUs, 50USD higher based on the SRP of NVIDIA GTX580. We have yet to know the true potential of this card due to the NDA imposed but according to some news, the core clock can achieve an additional 36 % from reference clock while on reference cooling!
There is a downside that has been plaguing reference cooling that is the fan noise. The Radeon HD7970 is no exception. It may be fastest single GPU in the world but it is definitely a much noisier card. I could hardly bear with fan noise at over 60% fan speed. However, this not an issue to worry about as most graphic card vendors has their own form of cooling such as the TwinFrozr from MSI, DirectCU from ASUS and etc.
The 3GB graphics memory is a plus for those who are or will be running Eyefinity or Eyefinity3D. With 3GB graphics memory, great performance and overclocking ability, and low power consumption, I don’t see a reason why anyone shouldn’t get this card.
